Here's a manicure I done did for a friend, who is also a So-So Fly Biologist. We're showing those Nerds how it's done!
The manicure is Polka Dot Dotty using Barry M varnishes (Coral and Black). Took me a while to paint in full - I'm a perfectionist. But a Big Thank You to the Dahling who lent me her keratin canvases...I'd be happy to manicure again - if you ever have 5 hours to spare ^_^
Polka dots on nails has been trending for several years but they have never left the scene because they can work with most colour combos and they are pretty easy to paint - just use the end of a paint brush or anything with a small blunt end.
So get painting - I want to see those Polka Dot claws at a Lab Bench near me!

Anyways, I'm getting by...managing with two horrifically mangled nails.
Cue the fakes (that's fake nails FYI).
What I Hate about fakes:
They never match your natural shape, no matter how carefully you file them. There' something about the curvature, the thickness...it's just not as satisfying to paint and then ogle! They are not true Nail Porn! What I Love about fakes:
They cover up what some B**ch ruined!
Yeah...and I'm going to ruin her...face!
Let's put the anger aside though and go to the happy nail painting place. After all the shaping and filing, I had a little bit of fun/polka dot madness (guess which are the fakes).
Yes, I'm getting nailed! In the Library...In the Lab...no matter where, it's on!

That is a bottle of polish you spot...never be without your Mavala mini collection, I say! On another note, one of my supervisors complimented my nails and even suggested that MEN should indulge in the occasional manicure! I almost felt compelled to whip my Mavalas out!
But, what a legend...a biochemist, who appreciates good nails...not many of those about...^_^

NB...perhaps open toes are not the safest option in a Lab...The Lab Bench Lady suggests wearing some cute socks to protect your perfect pedicure from any DNA intercalating agents ^_^

These are nude half moons.

Apply a clear base coat and leave to dry. Then place a circular sticker to the cuticle end of the nail and paint the whole nail with the colour of your choice. I've gone for my favourite brand Mavala in Romantic (#299) with an accent nail in Barry M Instant Nail Effects Gold Foil Effects (#320).

Dip Dye:
I am the envy of tween girls everywhere...and NO! I haven't slept with a member of One Direction (1D - for habitual Tumblr users). I've just dip dyed my hair.
That involves me applying some semi-permanent hair dye (Directions - Lavender) to the ends of my hair in a haphazardly manner.

Colours are fun to experiment with whether on your nails, feet or hair but remember...
Off to the Library I went on Sunday morning. Full of the best academic intentions...however, after 2 hours...I had lost all of my scholarly zeal! It wasn't due to a lack of enthusiasm for my subjects (except Ecology...it is just a silly subject) but down to the fact that they switch the heating off during the weekend and the whole Department freezes! Yes, the place gets soooo cold even when we're experiencing these tropical temperatures of +13°C. And my attire, as fabulous as it is, is not suitable for such sub-zero situations. To be honest, it's not really suitable for educational situations, but middle finger up to the rules and regs of academia...!!!
And of course, lest us not forget the all important manicure...
I have named this "The Inverse French Barbie". That is, it is the inverse of the usual french manicure, where the tips are painted pink (Miami by Mavala). For me, this shade of pink is too perfect for words...I've spent far too long admiring my nails. Sometimes, my nails are so distracting, I forget to take my pencil case to lectures and am forced to improvise with liquid eyeliner...suffice to say I do not get very far in note taking!

Yesterday was the Super Bowl...USA girlie rugby national final...of course it was all over the internet...okay...all I saw/cared about on Tumblr were Super Bowl inspired nails, I couldn't care less about the actual game (NB...Nicki Minaj looked fierce@half time). But, it made me miss the US and California...I'm always missing CA, like, I need a reason to miss it...
So, I decided to paint my nails in an abstract version of the America Flag...NB...Californian Palm Tree Thumbs ❤❤❤❤
